The Abbey holds a prominent and special place in the heart of Southampton, and as part of its ongoing restoration programme, carefully planned access solutions were essential. These needed to support significant loads while fully protecting the building’s historic fabric and character.
Working alongside RV Dart , Skill Scaffolding were appointed to deliver a robust and adaptable access system using the Layher Ltd (UK) Allround Scaffolding System. This system was selected for its versatility, strength and suitability for large-scale and complex heritage structures such as the Abbey.
The project involved extensive bespoke design and detailed planning, including specialist top-down installation techniques to ensure the access solution was constructed safely, efficiently and with precision. Every element was thoughtfully considered to achieve the right balance between structural performance and the preservation of this important historic environment.
